Scanning many devices » History » Version 6
Scanning many devices¶
By default, scan-me-now only scans the machine that you are coming from. What does this mean?
If you are using a web browser, of any variety, this means that the computer running the web browser will be scanned. If this is your desktop (for instance if you're sitting here reading this in one window and using scan-me-now in another) then that means your desktop will be scanned.
If you are logged in to a remote machine and are using
wget or similar tools, that means that the remote machine will be scanned.
Rule-of-thumb is that it scans the machine you are accessing it from
But what if you want to scan another machine?
To do so, you can use the facilities that
scan-me-now provides to registered users. If you have not yet done so, refer to Creating an account for instructions on how to do this. Once you have created your account, log in and follow along.
Upon logging in, you will be presented with the general landing page. It looks something like this.
Your page may not have all those scan results on it, or it may have more, depending on your usage of
Regardless, notice the new section at the bottom of the page labeled Need to scan a different computer? and the associated blue link for it. Click that.
The many devices scan page¶
That link will drop you on a page that looks like this
On this page, you will notice that it is similar in design to the general landing page. The biggest difference is that huge text box that lets you type in all the devices you want to scan.
So what can you type in the box? Well, lots of things.
- IPv4 addresses in a variety of formats
- 192.168.1.10 - 192.168.1.100
- IPv6 addresses in a variety of formats
So start adding devices, select your scanner, and when you are done, you should have come up with something that looks like this
When you have reached this point, click the button labeled Start the vulnerability scan and off it goes. You will receive a notification email when your scan has finished and the results are available for viewing and saving.
