What to do while on volunteer shift

Many of these task can be performed by looking at the ECL, Nearline, and http://novadaq-ctrl-datamon:8083/snapshot/ShowImageList.jsp
Contact the Run Coordinator with and questions or concerns. (ANL Office : 630-252-5845)

  • Check the logbook
    • Familiarize yourself with the current detector status.
    • Familiarize yourself with the current run plan - the Daily Run Plan is posted to the ECL by 8AM each day.
  • Make sure the appropriate windows are open on all monitors.
  • Log into the NOvA ECL, using your Services account.
    • If you are not sure how to do this, contact the Run Coordinator .
    • Be sure you can do this before you take your first shift
  • Fill out ECL forms as appropriate, including at least the following :
    Form Category Tag When
    Start Shift General Control Room start of shift
    Control Room Checklist General Control Room once
    Beam Beam Beam once
    DAQ and Computing Checklist General DAQ Computing once
    Fardet Nearline Checklist Far Detector Nearline each partition once per shift
    Neardet Nearline Checklist Near Detector Nearline each partition once per shift
    Stable Run Checklist Near/Far Detector Run Info a half hour into any manually started run
    End Shift General Control Room end of shift
  • Check Online Monitoring at least once per hour
  • At the end of your shift
    • fill out an "End Shift" form
    • log out of all instances of the NOvA ECL in the control room.
  • Verify that the EventDisplay and Online Monitoring are live and refreshing
    • Stop and restart these processes if they appear hung.
  • Assure that the DAQ Ganglia windows are up and current
