Restart a data taking run

Updated 2012-03-23

Note: This procedure currently only works once you've successfully started a run with a new Run Control GUI. Otherwise, it's likely the incorrect (or no) configuration files will be selected for one or more systems.

If you've cleanly ended a run, and none of the applications have gone mad, you can just click Begin Run again.

However, if you would like to reconfigure, do the following:

Once the run has ended, the RC GUI will highlight legal actions in Green. The safest thing to do is to follow this steps listed:
  1. "Prepare Hardware Config." (Note: you do not have to re-specify the config file names in the command bar if you have already done so since last restarting Run Control)
  2. "Load Hardware Config."
  3. "Configure Hardware"
At this point, RC will offer you a "Start Run" button in green, but don't do it! Not all applications have the same state model as Run Control (which will be fixed at some point). Continue with
  4. At this stage, you should cool the APDs
    • Click the "START Cooling" button on the DCSMain tab in the DCS GUI on the bottom right screen of NOVA-DAQ-2.
    • Wait until the indicator light next to that button turns green, about 3 minutes.
  5. "Prepare Run Config." (Note: you do not have to re-specify the config file names in the command bar if you have already done so since last restarting Run Control)
  6. "Load Run Config."
  7. "Configure Run"
If all has gone well, it is time to begin the run, for which you will have to click:
  8. "Begin Run" on the RC.
  9. Make sure the run is synched, per instructions of the day.
