Available Databases

The table below describes the current status of all database servers that are used by the NOvA Collaboration:

DB Host DB name DB Port Used by...
ifdbprod.fnal.gov nova_prod 5433 Offline
ifdbprod.fnal.gov nova_hardware 5432 Project QA/QC/Installation dB applications.
ifdbdev.fnal.gov nova_dev 5433 Anyone who needs it.
ifdbdev.fnal.gov nova_hardware_dev 5432 Project QA/QC/Installation dB application developers.
novadaq-ctrl-db-01.fnal.gov nova_prod 5432 NDOS DAQ + DCS systems. On a private network, not generally accessible. Data are replicated to nova_prod on ifdbprod.fnal.gov

All databases on ifdbprod are backed up via streaming replication onto another machine, ifdbrep.fnal.gov. The NDOS dB is currently backed up via a dump of the data to a separate disk on the machine on a daily basis. Databases on the development server are backed up on a weekly basis.

A general reader account, nova_reader, is set up on these databases that will allow anyone to connect via a password from anywhere in the world. If all you need to do is perform queries on the database, then you are encouraged to connect via this account. Otherwise, database connections require a valid kerberos ticket for the FNAL.GOV realm. Only those who will be inserting and updating data into tables will be given an account on the nova_prod database. The nova_dev database is pretty open (still need to request write access).

Coming soon:
