Conferencing

ESNet is discontinuing ECS (ReadyTalk) 30 Sept 2014. This was the primary means that LBNE did conferencing and needs to find a replacement. This section collects requirements and candidates for a replacement.

Requirements

This section lists requirements for a conferencing system for LBNE.

Absolute needs

  • connect via PSTN
  • free of charge for connecting to conferences (including toll free PSTN for US and international)
  • accessible by collaborators and non-collaborators
  • any connection via software clients must have cross-platform support (proprietary-only is a deal breaker)

Desired features

  • Shared desktop
  • Software client (web, Android, iOS)

Candidates

Each candidate is listed with some standard information items and then free description text.

  • Protocols: ???, PSTN

General Comments

This used to be known as EVO and was a HEP "standard" for a time when it was "free" to DOE collaborations. It's now pay but relatively inexpensive and still used by various collaborations (Daya Bay, STAR, more).

Cons:
  • With EVO connection problems were not uncommon and have gotten worse with SeeVogh

ReadyTalk is a commercial offering, why not start paying for it explicitly.
