Proxy using SSH tunnel¶
Quick 'n dirty way of setting up a SOCKS5 proxy through an SSH tunnel.
ssh -D 8080 user@username@sshd_server
In our case, we may want to use one of the lariat-gateway machines as the SOCKS5 proxy server:
ssh -D 8080 lariat-gateway.fnal.gov
If you are using Firefox, go to the advanced preferences pane:
Click on the "Settings..." button under the "Connection" category and this should pop up:
Select "Manual proxy configuration" and use
127.0.0.1 for the SOCKS host and
8080 for the port. Make sure that "SOCKS v5" is selected!
