DAQ Configuration Settings, Parameters, Starting a Run

Starting a run

To start a run, log into the nominal lariat-daq machine
with the production CAEN optical interface. Type:

ssh lariat-daq02 -l lariat   
LariatReadout [RunType] [Number of Triggers]

Where [RunType] is 1 for physics, or 2 for pedestal calibration.
Number of Triggers can be 0 if you wish to not be limited.
Type ctrl-c to stop the run before the number of triggers
limit has been reached.

Binary raw data files will appear in /daqdata directory as such:

lariat_physics_[run]_[spill].dat
lariat_pedestal_[run].dat

And a pedestal summary text file:

lariat_pedestal_group_[run].dat

Configuration

Configuration XML files are located in the /opt/lariat-online/config/ directory:

runNumber.dat

The runNumber.dat file contains the run number currently in use if the
readout is active, or the last run number used if the readout is not
active.

The two CAEN ADCs V1740 and V1751 have common parameters as such:

CAEN
nBoards Number of boards on the optical chain, 1...8
link Link number of the A3818 PCI optical interface, 0...3
boardNumber0...n Unique board number identifier for board n on the chain
usePedestals Flag to pedestal subtract from calibration run, or not
dacValue When usePedestals=0, specify this fixed DAC offset value, 0...65535

Specific to V1740:

recordLength Depth of the readout sampling buffer, per trigger 1536
samplingRate Rate in MHz of wave form sampling (for reference/record only)
postPercent Percentage of buffer sampled after the trigger (0...100)
maxEventsPerTransfer Events sent per readout request, normally 1, expert use only
eventsPerInterrupt Fire IRQ after this number of triggers, normally 1, expert use only
irqWaitTime Time for returning from IRQ wait, in order to poll spill flag, milliseconds
sampleReduction The power of two to reduce the sampling rate, e.g. 3 would give a factor of 8 reduction; use 0 for full readout
ioLevel I/O level of front panel trigger and S_IN (run) signals NIM (0) or TTL (1)
externalRun Flag to control run from software (0) or S_IN front panel input (1)
