Back to Back trolley run instructions for Shifters

The goal of this study is to perform back-to-back trolley runs between the trolley drive (approx -97.4 degrees while going counter clockwise, approx 262.4 degrees while going clockwise), starting with counter clockwise motion. Trolley cannot cross drive from either direction. The trolley will be inserted into the ring and driven to the trolley drive clock wise by an expert. The sketch shows the position of the Drive.

If something doesn't look right to you during the trolley motion, click the abort switch on the trolley control page.

In the rare event were there is network problem and you are not able to use the abort switch on the control page, use the crash switch in the control room.

At least one shifter should hold on to the "Controlled Access" key while the trolley is in the ring, unless the hall is in open access. At the end of the current shift, you and the new shifter should contact MCR to return your key and ensure the new shifter has one.

When the trolley is in the ring, Quads/RF system/Kickers should be at 0, and not pulsing. Collimators/FiberHarps/IBMS3/Plunging Probe/Kicker Magnetometer should not be inserted.

Trolley Operation:

Trolley will stop automatically at the drive from both directions. After the trolley stops automatically, shifters need to check that the barcode matches the screen shot, take a screenshot of the barcode, stop and start a new run and move the trolley other way around. Detailed instructions are below.

Screenshot below shows a recommended configuration of the different DQM/Control pages at the Field Station, to keep an eye on the necessary items, with details.

Trolley motion, Drive to Drive CCW

  1. Start a new Run with the comment “Back-to-back trolley run: CCW”. After the run starts, click on “Trly. To Drive CCW” in the trolley control page. Make sure trolley is moving in the control page (azimuthal position in degrees will decrease)
  2. Enter the run number and start time in the elog table (you can click on the clock icon in elog for the current time stamp)
  3. It will take about an hour to reach other side. Make sure 17 FIDs are present and updating. Keep an eye on trolley tension plot and it should stay below 3kg. Also keep an eye on ps-feedback DQM and make sure the mean field is within the green bands.
  4. Trolley will stop at around -97.5 degrees. Velocity will read zero. Record the azimuthal position of where the trolley stopped, and the tempertures highlighted in the screenshot above, in the table in the UW Elog. A screenshot of the table with example numbers is shown below.
  5. Check on the trolley barcode on the DQM page that you see the structure highlighted in attachment 4. If not call Simon/Jimin
  6. Take a screenshot of this barcode DQM page and attach it to the trolley run ELOG
  7. Enter the Azimuthal position of the trolley and 4 different temperatures marked in the figure above in the elog table (example table shown below)
  8. Stop the Run
  9. Stop and start the trolley DQM. (Field Midas page -> Programs)
  10. Go to the instructions for the "Trolley motion, Drive to Drive CW"

Trolley motion, Drive to Drive CW

  1. Start the Run with the comment “Back-to-back trolley run: CW”. After the run starts, click on “Trly. To Drive CW “ in the trolley control page. Make sure trolley is moving in the control page(absolute value of azimuthal position in degrees will decrease)
  2. Enter the run number and start time in the elog table ((you can click on the clock icon in elog for the current time stamp))
  3. It will take about an hour to reach other side. Make sure 17 FIDs are present and updating. Keep an eye on trolley tension plot and it should stay below 3kg. Also keep an eye on ps-feedback DQM and make sure the mean field is within the green bands.
  4. Trolley will stop at around 262.4 degrees. Velocity will read zero. Record the azimuthal position of where the trolley stopped, and the tempertures highlighted in the screenshot above, in the table in the UW Elog. A screenshot of the table with example numbers is shown above.

  6. Take a screenshot of this barcode DQM page and attach it to the trolley run ELOG.

  9. Go to the instructions for the "Trolley motion, Drive to Drive CCW"
