Telescope and Camera
79 3 March Marisa
--------------------
80 3 March Marisa
Chiller #1 failed last night at 3:15ish local, just before the
81 3 March Marisa
Moon was about to set. The camera is operating on chiller #2.
82 3 March Marisa
NESLab is running a little cooler because the flow is lower.
83 3 March Marisa
Tomorrow the chiller will be repaired by the Trane people.
84 3 March Marisa
85 3 March Marisa
Telescope is ready to start calibrations. SISPI is restarted and
86 3 March Marisa
ready to go.
87 3 March Marisa
88 3 March Marisa
TASCA was not running last night. Team to check with Hernan.

90 3 March Marisa
Last Night's Data
91 3 March Marisa
-----------------
92 3 March Marisa
Median seeing i-band zenith was 0.9", nice night.
93 3 March Marisa
DIMM was reporting 0.55" zenith g-ish. Got a lot of z-band
94 3 March Marisa
images because the Moon was up. But we didn't get the highest
95 3 March Marisa
priority z-band area because the Moon was too close to it.
96 3 March Marisa
97 3 March Marisa
Image 253214 is bad because of temperature of focal plane.
98 3 March Marisa
Images after that should be ignored.
99 3 March Marisa
100 3 March Marisa
DESDM
101 3 March Marisa
-----
102 3 March Marisa
Network problems wrecked processing from 11/9,10.
103 3 March Marisa
But they did get all the data.
104 3 March Marisa
105 3 March Marisa
Marisa is putting SN DQ in DESDM data base field SN-Quality.
106 3 March Marisa
107 3 March Marisa
DQ report from SK on the SN data from 11/9: All Bad. Eric to implement that
108 3 March Marisa
into the exposure table.
109 3 March Marisa
So we need the script that takes the quality info from the
110 3 March Marisa
DESDM fields and puts it into the exposure table. Robert is doing that.
111 3 March Marisa
But we are not ready to use the wide-band data DQ because
112 3 March Marisa
of the new extinction calculation. So we are not ready to use this
113 3 March Marisa
database.
114 3 March Marisa
115 3 March Marisa
For Tonight
116 3 March Marisa
-----------
117 3 March Marisa
Weather tonight looks good.
118 3 March Marisa
119 3 March Marisa
Update in DQ puts us likely to do SN. Otherwise z-band WF.
120 3 March Marisa
Obstac change from
121 3 March Marisa
1) SN deadman
122 3 March Marisa
2) WF grizY if seeing better than 1.1" and fits in the strict tau cut
123 3 March Marisa
3) SN tactitcian for fields > 3 days
124 3 March Marisa
4) g or Y-band unless seiing > 10"
125 3 March Marisa
5) SNX3
126 3 March Marisa
127 3 March Marisa
changes to
128 3 March Marisa
129 3 March Marisa
1) SN deadman
130 3 March Marisa
2) WF grizY if seeing better than 1.1" and fits in the strict tau cut
131 3 March Marisa
3) SN tactician for fields > 3 days
132 3 March Marisa
3.5) if seeing better than 1.6" grzY if it fits in a relaxed tau cut (based on
133 3 March Marisa
      airmass, sky background, seeing)
134 3 March Marisa
4) g, or Y-band unless seeing > 10"
135 3 March Marisa
5) SNX3
136 3 March Marisa

AOB
141 3 March Marisa
---
142 3 March Marisa
Last night there were a couple 4 or 5 image blips of bad seeing that resulted in
143 3 March Marisa
setting up SN observing under condition 3). Conditions quickly went back to condition
144 3 March Marisa
2) but the latency meant 45 minutes or so was spent under presumption of worse
145 3 March Marisa
condition. Observers asked if they should have stopped the queue and clear out the
146 3 March Marisa
upcoming observations so that Obstac could redecide to do 2).
147 3 March Marisa
148 3 March Marisa
No instructions exist for this.
149 3 March Marisa
Here we try to put down some principals, at least.
150 3 March Marisa
0) That Obstac has no internal procedure to "change its mind" is a feature
151 3 March Marisa
a) Run Managers decide this
152 3 March Marisa
b) It should not be done very often.
153 3 March Marisa
c) If done, it should be done so that it doesn't waste partially completed
154 3 March Marisa
    Supernovae fields.
155 3 March Marisa
d) If done right and the gamble pays off ...
