Project

General

Profile

Sig-R4

OBSTAC is appropriately configured to plan observations based on observed sky brightnesses.

Prerequisites

The analysis associated with Sig-R2 and Sig-R3 is complete.

Procedure

  • Update the OBSTAC parameters, if necessary.
  • Run a series of DES-like observations with OBSTAC.

Analysis

Analysis relevant to this requirement is available on this wiki page: Sky Brightness Measurements

Verdict

This should be coordinated with Ops-R1

Consequences

This should be coordinated with Ops-R1

Result: Passed

OBSTAC was run many times during the SV period and it successfully identified bright and dark time observations and did not attempt any fields that were too close to the moon. Several desireable upgrades to OBSTAC's capabilities were identified at this time, most notably to start izY observations in twilight and observations in Y band that include information about the current Y-band sky brightness. A number of measurements related to these recommendations are available on the Sky Brightness Measurements wiki page.
