Active Optics Reference Mesh Test

This is a test of new AOS Reference Meshes and corresponding new Hexapod LUT. In brief, the new reference meshes should yield improved wavefront, and correspond to an overall adjustment of the hexapod "set-point". The change in hexapod value (Diff = Old-New, as corrections) correspond to

dx: 838 microns
dy: -1269 microns
xt: 26.5"
yt: -11.7"

following all the minus signs, the LUT_new = LUT_old - Diff,
where Diff are the values above.

Test instructions:

Nominal

oldLUT.csh (see below) is run to take SISPI to "normal/prior" state. SISPI is there now.

  • point telescope where there is a reasonable density of stars
  • take r band, 30 second exposures
  • AOS on, LUT on, take 10 exposures to let AOS reach an equilibrium
  • adjust focus TRIM +1500 from current values, leave other TRIM values as-is, turn AOS off, leave LUT on
  • take 5 exposures (measure of wavefront with nominal reference mesh)
  • adjust focus TRIM back to in-focus value
New Reference Meshes & LUT
  • Switch to new AOS reference meshes & Hexapod LUT, using Klaus's script. As codemanager using open codemanager window on system1:
 ~codemanager/newLUT.csh 
will switch to new LUT and donut meshes.
  • restart SISPI
  • take r band, 30 second exposures
  • turn AOS on, LUT on, take 20 exposures to let AOS reach an equilibrium
  • if this looks reasonable, then continue as below...
  • adjust focus TRIM +1500 from current values, leave other TRIM values as-is, turn AOS off, leave LUT on
  • take 5 exposures (measure of wavefront with new reference mesh)
  • adjust focus TRIM back to in-focus value
Restore original meshes & LUT
  • to restore original Hexapod LUT: As codemanager using open codemanager window on system1:
 ~codemanager/oldLUT.csh 
* restart SISPI * take r band, 30 second exposures * turn AOS on, LUT on, take 10 exposures to to check that things are restored. * At the end of each run of oldLUT.csh and newLUT.csh, the eups versions will be displayed indicating the changes made.
