Kevin will provide instructions

Why

The focus tests are to attempt to determine if our current "best focus" is truly the "best focus". Evidence suggests we are fairly close.

The test will consist of moving the focus set point to +25 microns for 10 exposures, -25 microns for 10 exposures and back to 0 microns for 10 exposures. This is done by issuing the following command via the Architect Console

How

take 3 x 60 s exposures at with nominal settings (defaults) to get into focus/aligned.

 FOCUS.AOS set set_point 0,0,25,0,0,0
 FOCUS.AOS init_pid 0

take 10 x 60 s exposures
 FOCUS.AOS set set_point 0,0,-25,0,0,0
 FOCUS.AOS init_pid 0

take 10 x 60 s exposures
 FOCUS.AOS set set_point 0,0,0,0,0,0
 FOCUS.AOS init_pid 0

take 10 x 60 s exposures

How (details)

Detailed instructions for issuing a FOCUS.AOS command can be found at [[https://cdcvs.fnal.gov/redmine/projects/decamops/wiki/Using_AOS_(Adaptive_Optics_System)]].

The command can be issued at any time during an exposure and will take effect on the following exposure.

When

During second half of night (preferred)

The observer should pick a field and (good) filter and simply track on that field for the above 30 exposures. Please note expids in the elog.

During obstac observations

The observer can easily enter these commands during obstac observations. Please note the relevant exids in the elog.
