The ORM data to SDDS format converter

This is the program that converts the ORM data collected from Booster and converts it to the SDDS format required by Elegant.

The source codes can be retrieved by issuing the following command:

git clone

git clone

There is a loco configuration file in the file directory .loco
The loco.cfg file should be renamed .loco and put into your home directory.

Presently, I am only supporting builds on MAC OS X Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion. LINUX support is on the way. There are no plans to support any flavor of Windows.

Requirements for building and running disp2sdds:

  • python (comes pre-installed)
  • git
  • gawk
  • use MacPorts to install
 port install gnuplot
  • gnuplot
  • use MacPorts to install
 port install gnuplot
  • Boost library
  • use MacPorts to install
 port install boost
  • GNU Scientific library
  • use MacPorts to install
 port install gsl

Macports can be downloaded here

Edit the Makefile to put in the appropriate paths if necessary.

orm2sdds should be created. Move orm2sdds to your local path.

Checking the configuration

orm2sdds -h

The output should look something like this:

~/expt/booster/loco_new/orm2sdds@xanadu% orm2sdds -h
orm2sdds version 1.0-5-gca039b9-6
config file: .loco
         gnuplot font = /Library/Fonts/Arial.ttf
         plot dir = ./plots
         ORM sdds header = /Users/cytan/expt/booster/loco_new/common/ORMHeader.sdds

generic options :
  -h [ --help ] this message
-A [ --ormA ] arg ORM input file. Either one file with

cmdline and config file options:
  -F [ --orm2sdds.gnufont ] gnuplot font
  -P [ --orm2sdds.plotdir ] plot directory
  -H [ --orm2sdds.ormheader ] ORM sdds header file

Creating ORM.sdds

Minimum requirement is that you have either
  • one concatenated file of H,V ORM data file
  • two separate ORM files. One H and the other V.

For example:

 orm2sdds -A 28MARCH_ORM_H_6.TXT 28MARCH_ORM_V_1.TXT

where 28MARCH_ORM_H_6.TXT and 28MARCH_ORM_V_1.TXT are the horizontal and vertical ORM data collected from Booster. The files that are generated are
  • ORM.sdds which is used by Elegant.
If the -D option is on the commandline
  • plot files are deposited in the ./plots directory (unless the location has been changed in .loco). The plots directory is automatically created by orm2sdds. The files created in the directory are BPML1*.png and Resp_*.png.
