Description

Art has written up a proposal in #7123 for alternate bluearc mounts, this would
involve reworking around source:ifdh/ifdh_cp.cc#L947 to check for the /IFDHC-ONLY
prefixed path working and if so, rewriting the path, rather than deciding to
use gridftp, etc.

Has this proposal received any discussion? It seems like a major change that should get a review and sign-off from well, someone . Going off and coding this without knowing that it has support from say, network operations and grid operations seems unwise.

This is one of the proposals under development in the FIFE charge to investigate
options for removing the BlueArc mounts from FermiGrid. This is the Least Change
model; where we keep doing the ifdh copies via bluearc, but the filesystems are not
mounted in their "usual" places on the grid nodes, thus preventing accidental overloads
by folks who were accessing files without realizing it.

It is an estimated 5 line change to the ifdh code to be able to test this possibility.

  • Target version set to v1_6_2

First draft of this is in c7f15e98, which allows exactly "/.ifdh_only/" as the basis
for an alternate mount. If a second stage of looking in a config file for the location of this
alternate mount is needed, it will be added later as a separate feature.
